Trump Killing American Medical Research

Trump Killing American Medical Research

🧬 Cutting Cures to Own the Libs: Trump’s Assault on Medical Research
Here’s the thing about curing Alzheimer’s, cancer, or HIV: it’s not politically convenient. So instead of funding the medical breakthroughs that could save your parents, your neighbors, or your kids, the Trump administration decided to burn it all down — one NIH grant at a time.
Let’s talk numbers:

🔬 777 research grants canceled
🧪 $1.9 billion slashed from medical research
🧠 113 active clinical trials wiped out — including on HIV, Alzheimer’s, and mental health
💔 That’s not policy. That’s willful sabotage of American science.
Dr. Jason Flatt, a nationally recognized researcher focused on Alzheimer’s disease, just lost millions in NIH support. He had to lay off two staff and scramble to keep five grad students from losing everything. Why?
It doesn’t fit Trump’s culture war checklist.
And Flatt is far from alone. Projects studying vaccine hesitancy, rural health care, HIV, and even COVID-19 prevention were all axed. The administration didn’t even pretend. They just cited Trump’s executive orders.
Imagine being a scientist who’s spent your life studying childhood vaccines or rural cancer care — only to get an email from your government saying your research is no longer welcome because it isn’t ideologically pure enough.
This is not budget tightening. This is ideological censorship disguised as fiscal responsibility. The NIH’s Institutional Development Award program — which exists specifically to boost medical research in underfunded states like Montana and Mississippi — lost $75 million across 59 grants. So much for “forgotten America.”
Let’s call this what it is:
Trump isn’t draining the swamp — he’s draining the lab.
He’s gutting American innovation, killing off the next generation of scientists, and crippling our chances to find cures for the diseases that touch every family, red state or blue.
And for what?
To score a few Fox News soundbites?
To punish researchers who dare care about health equity?
To replace scientists with snake oil and soundbites?
As the Association of American Universities put it:
“These cuts would move us, virtually overnight, from global leadership in biomedical advancement to last place.”
Let that sink in.
Last place.
Not just morally, but medically.
So if you’re wondering where the next cancer breakthrough went, the answer might be: it got canceled for being too inclusive.
We can’t afford to let political egos kill scientific progress.
We can’t afford another term of Trump dismantling the very systems meant to save lives.
And we damn sure can’t pretend that gutting Alzheimer’s research is just “draining waste.”
If you care about curing disease more than canceling scientists, speak up.
Because the next clinical trial that gets killed might have been the one to save someone you love.
