No Kings Day in Los Angeles

"NO KINGS DAY" in Los Angeles: Marvel's Avengers' Movies had fewer explosions.
Welcome to "No Kings Day"—brought to you by tear gas, flash-bangs, mounted police, and the Trump regime. I spent “No Kings Day” in LA getting tear-gassed, avoiding being flash-banged, and dodging a wall of mounted police. So, just another relaxing Saturday under the Trump regime. 🙃
On Saturday, June 14th, in downtown LA, thousands gathered peacefully to defend our democracy, standing shoulder to shoulder. Despite the hundreds of police in riot gear, flash grenades, tear gas, mounted officers and block after block of black SUVs, we protested — peacefully, powerfully, and with purpose, until around 4:00 PM, when the police charged. It wasn’t exactly the relaxing weekend I had planned but a dose of tear gas makes you forget about your summer allergies! 🙃

But here’s what might surprise you: when I found myself on the street, in front and face-to-face with the police line, I walked the line, looked each officer in the eye and said, sincerely, “Thank you for your service — I know it’s been a long day for you.”
Because I believe compassion isn’t just for people who agree with us  — it’s for everyone. It includes the immigrants who built this country and are now being hunted down by ICE — and yes, even the officers who are being ordered to suppress peaceful protests exercising their First Amendment rights. If Lincoln could say it after four years of brutal civil war — “with malice toward none, with charity for all” — I can say something similar after four hours of protesting.

Let’s be clear: Trump is sending a message: With his baroque, banana republic style military parade, his use of ICE to hunt down those who helped build America, his crackdown on peaceful dissent, it is authoritarianism on full display.  Trump stands for cruelty, corruption, and chaos.  I offer a different choice: compassion, character, and competence. 👉 But this is bigger than my campaign for Congress in CA-41. This is about defending the Constitution — and stopping Trump’s militarized crackdown on peaceful dissent. This is about whether we’re still a democracy, or something darker.
👉 So speak up. Share this. Show up. Protest peacefully. And when November 3, 2026 comes — vote like democracy depends on it. Because it does.
Turn the House Blue. Turn the Senate Blue.
And for the record? On 11/03/26 I’m voting to 1010110 Trump and the GOP — that’s a little binary love letter to the authoritarian right and Fox News, who go apocalyptic and melt like snowflakes over seashells in the sand.
Let’s end this nightmare before it ends us.
